Strife is operated by Dominic Polihronos (trading as "Strife", referred to as "we", "our", or "us"). Dominic Polihronos is the data controller responsible for personal information processed through the Strife application, website, voice features, and related services (the "Service").

This Privacy Notice explains what personal data we collect, the purposes and legal bases for processing, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.

By using Strife, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Notice.

1. Minimum Age Requirement

Strife is intended for users aged 16 and older.

By using the Service, you confirm that:

  • you are at least 16 years old,
  • or you have permission from a parent or legal guardian where required by law.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we may collect:

  • email address
  • username/display name
  • authentication provider information (such as Google login)

Subscription & Billing Information

Payments are processed by Paddle.com (Paddle), which acts as the Merchant of Record for all Strife purchases. Paddle collects and processes payment details directly; we do not see or store full card numbers, CVV codes, or other sensitive payment credentials.

From Paddle we receive limited billing-related information such as:

  • subscription status
  • payment success/failure events
  • Paddle customer and subscription identifiers
  • invoice references
  • country/region for tax purposes

We may collect:

  • simulation history
  • selected archetypes
  • coaching interactions
  • profile analysis data
  • custom scenarios
  • role reversal setup data
  • language preferences
  • feature usage statistics
  • voice mode usage counts

Overall Profile Tracking

If enabled by the user, Strife may analyze communication patterns over time to generate:

  • behavioural insights
  • strengths/weaknesses
  • profile summaries
  • communication trend analysis

This system is intended for communication training purposes only and is NOT psychological diagnosis, therapy, or medical assessment.

Technical Data

We may automatically collect:

  • device/browser type
  • IP address
  • operating system
  • app version
  • crash logs
  • analytics data
  • session activity

3. Voice Features

Voice interactions may be processed through third-party AI and speech providers.

Voice input may be temporarily processed to:

  • generate AI responses
  • provide speech playback
  • improve simulation functionality

We do not intentionally store raw voice recordings permanently unless explicitly stated.

4. How We Use Your Information & Legal Bases

We process the categories of data described above for the following purposes, relying on the corresponding legal bases under the UK GDPR / EU GDPR (where applicable):

  • Providing and operating the Service, including account creation, login, and simulation features — performance of a contract with you.
  • Processing subscriptions, billing, tax, invoicing, and handling refunds — performance of a contract, and compliance with legal obligations (including tax law).
  • Maintaining security, preventing fraud and abuse, and enforcing our Terms — legitimate interests in protecting the Service and our users.
  • Improving realism, accuracy, and quality of simulations and AI features — legitimate interests in developing the Service.
  • Providing customer support — performance of a contract and our legitimate interests in supporting users.
  • Analytics and performance monitoring — legitimate interests in understanding usage and improving the product.
  • Sending optional product communications — your consent, where required.

5. AI-Generated Content

Strife uses artificial intelligence to generate:

  • conversations
  • coaching
  • behavioural analysis
  • simulation outcomes
  • profile summaries

AI responses may occasionally:

  • be inaccurate
  • contain mistakes
  • misinterpret context
  • or produce imperfect analysis.

Strife should not be considered:

  • medical advice
  • mental health treatment
  • legal advice
  • professional therapy
  • or crisis intervention.

6. Third-Party Services & Data Sharing

We share limited personal data with the following categories of recipients, only as needed to operate the Service:

  • Paddle.com Market Limited — Merchant of Record for all sales, handling payments, subscription management, tax compliance, invoicing, and refund processing.
  • Supabase — authentication, database, and hosting infrastructure.
  • OpenAI and other AI model providers — generating simulation, coaching, and analysis output from prompts you submit.
  • ElevenLabs — speech-to-text and text-to-speech for voice features.
  • Analytics and crash-reporting providers — to understand and improve product performance.
  • Professional advisers (legal, accounting) — where reasonably necessary.
  • Authorities, regulators, or courts — where required by law.

These providers act either as our processors or, in Paddle's case, as an independent controller / Merchant of Record for payment data.

7. Data Storage & Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect user data, including:

  • authentication systems
  • encryption in transit
  • secure cloud infrastructure
  • restricted database access
  • row-level access controls
  • secure payment processing via Paddle

However, no online system can guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Notice, then delete or anonymise it. In practice:

  • Account data (email, display name, authentication identifiers) — kept while your account is active, and for up to 30 days after account deletion to handle final operational issues.
  • Simulation history, profile analyses, and usage statistics — kept while your account is active; deleted or anonymised when you delete the relevant data or your account.
  • Billing and tax records held by Paddle as Merchant of Record — retained by Paddle for the period required by applicable tax and accounting law (typically 6–10 years).
  • Security, abuse-prevention and audit logs — kept for up to 24 months, then deleted or aggregated.
  • Support correspondence — kept for up to 24 months from the last contact.

9. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Right of access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — ask us to delete your account and associated data, subject to legal retention obligations.
  • Right to restriction of processing — ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
  • Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (for example, the UK Information Commissioner's Office) if you believe your rights have been infringed.

We will respond to verified requests within one month, in line with applicable law.

10. Account Deletion

Users may request deletion of their account and associated data from within the app or by contacting us.

Certain billing or legal records (including those held by Paddle as Merchant of Record) may be retained where required by law or payment-processing obligations.

11. Cookies & Local Storage

Strife may use:

  • cookies
  • local storage
  • session storage

to:

  • maintain login sessions
  • save preferences
  • improve app performance
  • preserve temporary simulation data

Where data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or transfers to jurisdictions covered by an adequacy decision.

We may update this Privacy Notice periodically.

If significant changes occur, we may notify users through the app or website.

Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated notice.
